A dancer, choreographer and master instructor for 17 years, Betsy Ann, is fulfilling her lifelong dream in creating Momentum Dance Company. She has been trained and competed nationally and internationally in the United States and Canada since the age of 11. She began her dance training in Milwaukee, WI and her competitive career in Oakville, Ontario.
She has been trained and danced professionally in Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical, Ballet, Tap and Contemporary. She competed for 9 years before graduating and pursuing her degree in Marketing at the University of Georgia. While at UGA she founded the first Hip Hop dance program through the school's Athletic Center and taught for 3 years as the sole Hip Hop Instructor. During this time Betsy also toured the United States with National Dance Convention/Competition LA Dance Magic, as a choreographer's assistant.
Upon graduation from UGA, Betsy pursued her professional dance career and moved to Los Angeles, CA.
While dancing in LA, Betsy added such names as Will Smith, Backstreet Boys and Jamie King to her resume as well as various movies, tv shows and commercials. In 2008, she began an International Dance Workshop and took her teaching to various countries outside of the US including Cayman Islands, Anguilla and Jamaica. Her teaching credentials landed her a job instructing at one of LA's prominent dance studio's International Dance Academy (IDA) in Hollywood. Instructing in Los Angeles was the beginning of dreams coming true for Betsy.
Sharing her gift of dance has always been Betsy's first priority. Creating Momentum Dance Company is taking that priroity to another level and allowing her to share her dream with even more dancers. She is overwhelmed to announce an opportunity in Santa Barbara for dancers to compete, grow and inspire one another in a safe, nurturing, judge-free environment. She looks forward to dancing with her new dancersin this endeavor and creating a legacy in Santa Barbara.
Born in Connecticut, Nicole has always had a passion for dance. Since the young age of 3 she started training in all styles of dance. She has trained throughout her life and is currently continuing in Los Angeles, Ca. She has choreographed and taught at numerous dances studios, and assisted many highly re-guarded choreographers. She recently finished touring with Colette Carr and has danced for the likes of Esther Dean featuring Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, Ellen, No Doubt, and the movie “Dance Flick”. She is currently teaching at Millennium Dance Complex and wants to continue to share her love of dance with everyone.
Léna Alvino is originally from Switzerland. She started ballet at 5 and modern and contemporary dance at 14. She had the chance to dance in a variety of performances such as Nutcracker, Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan, What a Small World, The Carnival of the Animals, Collection, Cinderella, Romeo and Juliette, Chatouille and Alice in Wonderland. After graduating from an artistic high school, she joined Alonzo King LINES Ballet Training Program. Since August 2017, she has danced in Santa Barbara in State Street Ballet’s Professional Track Program.
Meghan Buddy began her training at the School of the Grand Rapids Ballet in Grand Rapids, MI. At 18, she moved to Portland,
OR, to further her training at the School of Oregon Ballet Theatre. She has trained at State Street Ballet for the past two year, and has performed in productions such as: Carmina Burana, The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, An American Tango, and Cinderella. She will begin her first year as an apprentice this fall.
Quinn Oliver began her ballet training at the Colorado Ballet Academy from ages three through eleven. Since then, Quinn trained primarily under Jill Oliver at Insightful Motion/Thrive Ballet. She also studied with Janelle Cooke and Michelle Rodenbeck and attended summer intensives at Ballet Austin, Colorado Ballet, Thrive Ballet, Davis Contemporary Dance Company, Denver Dance Center, and State Street Ballet. With Thrive Youth Ballet Quinn performed Clara, the Snow Queen, and the Sugarplum Fairy in The Nutcracker, as well as soloist parts in many of Jill Oliver’s original works. Offstage she served as Assistant to the Director of Thrive Ballet and works on all aspects of performance production. Quinn was a member of Davis Contemporary Dance Company’s pre-professional training program, Davis Dance Next Generation, and Ballet 5280. In addition to dancing, Quinn is passionate about choreography and has created numerous solos and several group pieces. Quinn served as Repetiteur for the 2017 season of Thrive Ballet, and is certified in Progressing Ballet Technique.
Carly Visgar has been dancing for the age of 8 years old. She trained for the majority of her youth at the Competitive studio JDI Dance Company in Canyon Lake, CA. Carly was taught by professionals that focused strictly on technique and ballet. She placed first overall in elite solos and elite group routines countless times over the years.
She attended Temescal Canyon High School and was apart of their nationally ranked Varsity Dance Team for four years. During her Junior and Senior year, she was captain of the team and choreographed countless routines as well as cleaned the competition routines. More recently she attended conventions and master classes taught by some of the biggest names in the dance world right now. Specifically she has been recognized by Mark Meismer, Brandon Bryant, Tessandra Chavez, Erica Klein, Nicole Kirkland and more. I was given awards such as Standout Dancer and AllStar Dancer at conventions.
Carly has professionally choreographed a competition hip hop routine, a dance for company try outs, and more. She is currently a member of the UCSB Dance Team. If you see Carly when dropping off or picking up please welcome her to Momentum! Dance has been Carly's world for as long as she can remember and she is so thrilled to be able to teach what she knows to Momentum's dancers.
Natalie is originally from Christchurch, New Zealand where she began ballet at the age of 3. At age 13, she moved to Salem, Oregon and furthered her training at American Ballet Academy. There, Natalie performed leading roles such as Aurora, Sugar Plum fairy, and Wendy in Peter Pan. Natalie also has training and performance experience with Eugene Ballet Company in Oregon. In 2017 Natalie moved to Santa Barbara to join State Street Ballet as a company trainee and now she is joining our Momentum Faculty and we couldn’t be more excited!
Hannah has been dancing since the age of nine years old. She fell in love with tap when she first started dancing and since then a strong passion for ballet as grown. She started competing in tap at a young age and went to win 1st Overall at KAR Dance Competition with her tap solo. In her Middle School and High School years she competed in genres of jazz and contemporary at the elite level with JDI Dance Company in Canyon Lake, California. Her group dances with JDI Dance Company have received numerous overall awards, consistently placed in the Top 5, and even won first overall multiple times. Hannah’s solo performances in jazz and contemporary have placed in the Top 5 at competitions, she has even placed 2nd Overall at Star Systems Nationals in Las Vegas, Nevada with her contemporary solo.
Hannah has been trained by professionals who value technique and have strong backgrounds in ballet. The flexibility the accompanied being homeschooled during her high school years allowed her to work very closely with dance teachers at JDI Dance Company, to work with and teach younger girls of all ages, and allowed her more training time in the studio. Hannah’s love and passion for the students at Momentum Dance Company paired with her fresh new outlook on technique, makes us very excited that she is a part of our Faculty!
