A dancer, choreographer and master instructor for 17 years, Betsy Ann, is fulfilling her lifelong dream in creating Momentum Dance Company. She has been trained and competed nationally and internationally in the United States and Canada since the age of 11. She began her dance training in Milwaukee, WI and her competitive career in Oakville, Ontario.
She has been trained and danced professionally in Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical, Ballet, Tap and Contemporary. She competed for 9 years before graduating and pursuing her degree in Marketing at the University of Georgia. While at UGA she founded the first Hip Hop dance program through the school's Athletic Center and taught for 3 years as the sole Hip Hop Instructor. During this time Betsy also toured the United States with National Dance Convention/Competition LA Dance Magic, as a choreographer's assistant.
Upon graduation from UGA, Betsy pursued her professional dance career and moved to Los Angeles, CA.
While dancing in LA, Betsy added such names as Will Smith, Backstreet Boys and Jamie King to her resume as well as various movies, tv shows and commercials. In 2008, she began an International Dance Workshop and took her teaching to various countries outside of the US including Cayman Islands, Anguilla and Jamaica. Her teaching credentials landed her a job instructing at one of LA's prominent dance studio's International Dance Academy (IDA) in Hollywood. Instructing in Los Angeles was the beginning of dreams coming true for Betsy.
Sharing her gift of dance has always been Betsy's first priority. Creating Momentum Dance Company is taking that priroity to another level and allowing her to share her dream with even more dancers. She is overwhelmed to announce an opportunity in Santa Barbara for dancers to compete, grow and inspire one another in a safe, nurturing, judge-free environment. She looks forward to dancing with her new dancersin this endeavor and creating a legacy in Santa Barbara.
Whitney began dancing at the age of 14 at Extensions Performing Arts Academy, where she was trained by some of the best teachers in the Antelope Valley including Donyelle Jones from So You Think You Can Dance. Whitney was asked to assist several choreographers at Millennium Dance Complex and EDGE Performing Arts Center and has traveled all over the country assisting Jess Garfield, Joaquin Escamilla, and TOKYO. She has toured with Hollywood Vibe Dance Convention assisting teachers such as Tessandra Chavez, Kent Boyd, and Melissa Sandvig. She is currently signed with Clear Talent Group. She was a featured dancer in The Creative Magazine’s “A New Dialogue” and has owkred wit harpists such as Paula Abdul, Roshon Fegan, and Mollee Gray. Whitney has been teaching for several years and her unique understanding of placement and technique provides her students with the tools they need to excel. Whitney currently resides in North Hollywood, CA where she continues to work on new projects.
Brittany began her dance training at age 5 in Southern Minnesota. Competing and performing her entire young life, she eventually began teaching when she was just 15-years-old. After graduating from high school, Brittany danced her way to the University of Minnesota where she studied Dance and Journalism, graduating with her Bachelor of Arts. For a short time, she lived in New Zealand where she danced at the University of Otago. When she returned to Minnesota, she was hired as one of the main competitive and recreational dance instructors at a studio in the Minneapolis area.
For the past six years, Brittany has been teaching full time, coaching dance teams and dancing for companies in Minnesota, Washington and California. Quickly forming strong bonds with her dancers, she keeps her classes fun with sassy jazz numbers and technical lyrical pieces. Her dancers have won numerous top awards, overalls and judges choice awards.
Brittany is beyond excited to continue to share her love and passion for dance with all the dancers at Momentum.
Meghan Buddy began her training at the School of the Grand Rapids Ballet in Grand Rapids, MI. At 18, she moved to Portland,
OR, to further her training at the School of Oregon Ballet Theatre. She has trained at State Street Ballet for the past two year, and has performed in productions such as: Carmina Burana, The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, An American Tango, and Cinderella. She will begin her first year as an apprentice this fall.
Native of Washington State, Nora began dancing ballet in kindergarten under Peggy Goodner-Tan and Dodie Askegard. After graduating high school she spent three years dancing in and around Seattle at Cornish College of the Arts and open classes at PNB. In September 2016 she moved to Santa Barbara to dance as a trainee with State Street Ballet. She danced in the ProTrack showcase with excerpts from Le Corsair and a featured role in Balanchine's Serenade, as well as joining the full company dancers on their tour of The Nutcracker. She is looking forward to helping train a new generation of dancers.
Originally from an hour south of Santa Barbara, Marti moved to attend University of California, Santa Barbara four years ago. While finishing up her Bachelor's Degree, Marti is assisting in Momentum's office and overseeing day-to-day operations. Although she does not have an extensive dance background, she admires the art and enjoys supporting our dancers!
