*Dancers must be 5 years of age by September 1, 2018 in order to audition*
Momentum Dance Company is comprised of 3 levels of Companies, please choose the company you qualify for and attend that audition. If the director feels a dancer qualifies for a different team based on audition performance, that director will notify the dancer and parent to stay for the next portion of the audition.
THRIVE - Dancers ages 6-11 years old
Junior Breakthrough- Dancers ages 8-12 years old
Teen Breakthrough - Dancers ages 12-18 years old
MINI Company - Dancers age 5 to 7 years old
PETITE Company - Dancers ages 6-9 years old
JUNIOR Company - Dancers age 9-12 years old
TEEN Company - Dancers ages 13-15 years old
SENIOR Company - Dancers age 13-18 years old
PRO Company - Dancers over the age of 18

AUDITION REGISTRATION & FEE
In order to audition, an MDC Summer Audition Registration Form MUST be completed and submitted prior to auditioning. Juniors, Beakthrough, Teens and Seniors please also include a $85.00 audition fee, which includes your registration fee for the year. Thrive, Mini & Petite dancers please bring a $55 registration/audition fee. Dancers auditioning for Petite, Junior, Teen, Senior and Breakthrough must attend the Audition Prep Camp August 13-17th.
Auditions will be approximately 1 hour for Thrive, Breakthrough, Mini & Petite company members and 3 hours in length for Junior, Teen & Senior company members.
THRIVE, MINI & PETITE COMPANY prospective dancers will audition from 10:00 am - 11:00 am
BREAKTHROUGH prospective dancers will audition together from 11:00-12:30 pm
JUNIOR, TEEN and SENIOR prospective dancers will audition together from 1:00 pm- 4:00pm
The Thrive, Mini & Petite Company audition will be to view and asses the dancers Hip Hop/Jazz Technique and ability to perform choreography. The Breakthrough audition will be to asses Jazz texchnique and ability to perform choreography and the Junior, Teen and Senior Company auditions will asses Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and Acrobatic ability. The first half of the Company audition will be to view and assess the dancers Ballet Technique ability. In the second portion of the audition, a contemporary or jazz combo will be taught for the dancers to learn and perform. The auditions are intended for the judges, choreographers and director to see dancers shine! We encourage dancers to relax and have fun at the time of auditions and feel at home with MDC's director and judging panel!
WHAT TO WEAR
Auditions are a time for dancers to look their best and show their individual style! Please dress neat and clean so judges can see your lines. Hair may be worn off of the face, so it does not distract dancers during his or her audition. A change of clothes may be brought for Hip Hop audition section.
Jazz shoes or paws may be worn for Jazz section (NO SOCKS PLEASE)! Sneakers are to be worn for Hip Hop section. Any dancer interested in a Tap Company group, solo, duet/trio will be required to bring tap shoes to audition as well.
Competition is a new concept in the Santa Barbara area, and Betsy would like to further describe the mission, vision, and expectations for Momentum Dance Company to all prospective parents. We encourage you to download the Parent Information packet at the top of this page and if you have any questions, such as scheduling, time commitments for each company, competitions for the year and costs for company members, we encourage you to contact the Director for more information. There will be a Parent Information meeting Tuesday, May 1st at 7:00 PM at 316 A STATE STREET to answer any questions and go over how the 2018-2019 Breakthrough and Competitive Companies will operate. Attendance to one informational meeting is mandatory for your child to audition for company.
The August 25th, 2018 audition will be judged by Momentum's Director Betsy Ann and additional MDC Teaching Staff. Additional guest judges attend the annual auditions held in August All judges have trained in various styles of dancing, including Jazz and Hip Hop. Most of the judges on the panel have danced in a competitive company, choreographed for competition pieces, and/or have been judges at national and regional dance competitions. All the judges have worked as professional dancers in today's industry and understand the audition process. A list of the judges will be disclosed closer to the audition date.
Audition results will be posted outisde of MDC's Company Rehearsal space 628 Olive Street, on Sunday, August 26th at 12:00pm.
